老鼠大致上可分為褐家鼠(溝鼠),
黃胸鼠及小家鼠(老鼠仔)三種.
老鼠可以整年不分季節不斷繁殖,
其上下顎各有兩隻長牙, 這兩隻長牙不斷生長,
因此老鼠要不斷咬東西來固定其長度, 可以吃任何食物, 肉類, 穀類, 但特別喜歡吃穀類食物. 常用舌舐身體各部份用以保持清潔.視力很差, 但聽覺及觸覺則極其敏銳, 故喜歡在陰暗的地方及靠牆邊利用觸鬚摸索前進並據經驗所得, 多以固定路線活動.

Fleas are one of the most important groups of insect pest
because they not only cause discomfort by biting, but they can transmit
several diseases such as plague and murine tyhus.
Females lay 4-8 eggs after each blood meal, laying some
400-500 during their lifetime. Eggs are oval, whitish, and about 0.65 mm
long and usually hatch in 1-12 days. Larvae require high relative humidity
and 1-2 weeks to several months to go through 3 instars. Under favourable
conditions, the pupal stage may last 4-14 days or up to a year under harsh
conditions. The pre-emerged adult remains in the cocoon for up to 20 weeks,
where it is protected from adverse conditions, including pesticides.
The house mouse is the most commonly encountered and
economically important of the commensal rodents, the Norway and roof/black
rats being the other two.
They are not only a nuisance, damage/destroy materials
by gnawing, and eat and contaminate stored food, they are also of human
health importance as disease carriers or vectors.
