香港夏天炎熱多雨, 非常適宜蚊蟲繁殖. 蚊產卵於水中, 卵孵化為幼蟲, 然後變成蚊.

蚊子叮咬人後, 不單會使患處紅腫痕癢, 同時有可能傳染日本腦炎及登革熱等疾病, 故應保持環境衛生, 以防蚊蟲滋生.

蚊蟲主要在雨季開始滋生. 要防止蚊蟲滋生, 最重要是清除積水. 貯水容器應蓋緊; 垃圾, 汽水罐, 空樽要放進有蓋垃圾桶內; 最少每周一次徹底更換整個花瓶內及清倒盆栽墊碟的水; 保持溝渠暢通, 把凹凸不平的地面填平, 以防積水等.

適當施用對環境安全的殺幼蟲劑及霧化殺蟲劑的噴灑能有效減低蚊子的數量.

Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. They bites not only cause reddening, swelling and itching at the affected location, it may also transmit diseases like Japanese Encephalitis and Dengue Fever.

Removal of stagnant water is of prime importance to the prevention of mosquito breeding. Water in the containers in the premises should be changed or removed at least once a week. Cover all water containers tightly to prevent mosquito breeding. Wrap up properly refuse such as soft drink cans, empty bottles and empty boxes before placing them in litter containers to prevent accumulation of stagnant water. Keep all drains in the premises free from chokage. Leaves and refuse should be cleared regularly to avioid chokage of drainage channels. Apply larvicide in sand traps, gullies, air filters and drain holes and etc.
